The Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) and its members are committed to stopping opioid abuse and misuse before it occurs.
HDA is the founding partner of Allied Against Opioid Abuse (AAOA) — a national education effort focused on raising awareness around the safe use and disposal of opioids as well as patients’ rights, risks and responsibilities associated with use of these medicines.
Through AAOA, we are working with partners — including the Alliance for Aging Research, American Physical Therapy Association, Caregiver Action Network, Healthcare Leadership Council, Mental Health America, National Alliance of State Pharmacy Associations, National Community Pharmacists Association, National Council on Patient Information and Education and the PA Foundation — to ensure crucial information and educational resources about safe use, storage and disposal of prescription opioids are accessible to patients and families across the nation.
This effort builds on distributors’ role as the vital link in the healthcare supply chain, bringing together stakeholders to solve challenges. Similarly, AAOA serves as a centralized information resource, connecting providers, pharmacists and the public to education about the rights, risks and responsibilities associated with prescription opioids.
In addition to supporting AAOA, HDA member companies also are engaged in many other initiatives.
AmerisourceBergen supports the Prescription Drug Safety Network’s digital education initiative to combat opioid misuse and empower Ohio high school students, promotes the safe disposal of opioids and provides communities with access to drug deactivation resources through its municipal support program and partnered with Walgreens to expand a safe medication disposal program to 1,500 stores near military bases and other areas where the opioid epidemic has heavily impacted communities. The AmerisourceBergen Foundation also launched the Opioid Resource Grant Program to support and advance ideas from innovative non-profit, grant-funded organizations to address the opioid crisis.
Value Drug supports Operation Our Town, a community and business partnership in Blair County, Pennsylvania, to promote healthy neighborhoods and combat illegal drug use and resulting crime.
