HDMA's John M. Gray Highlights 2014 Priorities in Chain Drug Review

January 6, 2014

ARLINGTON, Va. — HDMA President and CEO John M. Gray lent his voice, along with other healthcare supply chain leaders, as part of Chain Drug Review's annual "Pharmacy Outlook" feature, published on January 6, 2014.

In the column, Gray says, "We enter 2014 on the heels of a historic moment for the healthcare industry," referring to the enactment of the Drug Quality and Security Act — a major milestone for the healthcare supply chain. But Gray notes, "... We also realize the work has only just begun, as we begin down the long and complex road toward implementation ... HDMA will continue to play a role in representing the voice of distributors as we actively work with our trading partners during this implementation process."

Besides the new reality of implementing a national traceability law, Gray outlines the priorities that will continue to take center stage in 2014. These include the continuing impact of the nation's prescription drug abuse epidemic, the effects of ongoing efforts to pass a balanced budget and comprehensive tax reform, challenges related to Medicare reimbursement and the new reality of a globalized distribution industry.
