HDA Featured in Chain Drug Review's 2019 "Pharmacy Outlook"

Posted in

With a new year in full swing, HDA President and CEO John M. Gray looked ahead to the organization’s 2019 priorities (along with other industry association executives) as part of the Chain Drug Review “Pharmacy Outlook” feature.

In his annual column, published in the January 7 issue, Gray pointed out that while there has been more scrutiny of pharmaceutical distributors, most are unaware of the significant role HDA members play within the healthcare industry. Because of this, Gray notes, “HDA has seized the opportunity to expand our leadership role. We will carry this momentum into 2019 as the Alliance responds to several priority issues, while taking the opportunity to spotlight the vital work of distributors in the healthcare system.”

Among others, the 2019 HDA priorities highlighted by Gray include:

  • Advancing multifaceted and practical solutions to the opioid abuse epidemic, including bringing stakeholders together to raise awareness and advance education through Allied Against Opioid Abuse;
  • Enhancing supply chain integrity through continued implementation of the traceability law, the Drug Supply Chain Security Act;
  • Providing thought leadership to Congress and the administration as they address drug pricing issues;
  • Forging new connections with HDA members, including future distribution leaders, through the Convene program, among other member services.

“Though we cannot predict the future, it will certainly demand strong leadership,” said Gray. “HDA will continue to fulfill that role for distributors as the industry rises to meet the challenges of operating within an evolving business and regulatory environment.” Read the full column by downloading the PDF below.

The Healthcare Distribution Alliance (HDA) represents primary pharmaceutical distributors — the vital link between the nation’s pharmaceutical manufacturers and pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, clinics and others nationwide. Since 1876, HDA has helped members navigate regulations and innovations to get the right medicines to the right patients at the right time, safely and efficiently. The HDA Research Foundation, HDA’s nonprofit charitable foundation, serves the healthcare industry by providing research and education focused on priority healthcare supply chain issues.
