In college, Tim Urban’s procrastination problem got so bad that he found himself writing the first word of his 90-page senior thesis only 72 hours before it was due. After spending years trying to understand how his own mind worked, he finally put his thoughts down on paper, creating three cartoon stick drawings — the Rational Decision-Maker, the Instant Gratification Monkey and the Panic Monster — to represent the major “players” in his head that battled over the steering wheel. In a hilarious presentation, Urban takes us on a journey through YouTube binges, Wikipedia rabbit holes and bouts of staring out the window -- and encourages us to think harder about what we're really procrastinating on, before we run out of time. … what will the attendees learn?

The importance of workplace safety cannot be overstated during normal business operations, but for most employers, maintaining employee safety has never been more challenging than over the last two years. During the COVID-19 public health emergency, the nation’s healthcare providers became even more reliant on wholesale distributors and their manufacturer suppliers to help ensure availability of life-supporting or -sustaining products for patient treatment. And, protecting employees using “lock downs” or “work from home” policies were not an option.

Hear about legal, regulatory and operational challenges, including additional safety challenges that are part of today’s modern workplace and transitional considerations as COVID-19 case rates decline, all while remaining vigilant for yet another variant. An opportunity for audience questions will be provided.

This session, hosted by HDA’s Pharmaceutical Cargo Security Coalition (PCSC) will cover two case studies:

    • Order Fraud involves industry and government investigations into cyber attempts to infiltrate ordering exchanges — within the pharmaceutical supply chain, between distributors and their retail customers. The cases themselves cannot be discussed, because several are under active investigation, but the methodologies used, including business email compromise and social engineering, will be covered.
    • Operation Vax was an effort launched by the PCSC to collaborate with those in industry and government to protect the integrity of the COVID-19 vaccine supply chain. It involved monitoring the internet, including social media, the dark web, online marketplaces, and other channels, for any illicit talk about attempts to disrupt the vaccine supply chain.

The pandemic has created new challenges that have directly impacted the wholesale drug supply chain, including cold chain packaging shortages and delayed overnight parcel shipments. New technology is needed to protect the product for delays and to provide real-time location and temperature data to make quality and management decisions. Further, U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) has been working to provide more guidance around storage and transportation to help ensure product integrity while balancing the realities of wholesale distribution that have been misunderstood in the past.

This session will examine the recent temperature management challenges that our industry has faced and the latest technology that may address the changing environment. Attendees will learn about USP’s past, present and future efforts related to storage and transportation.

When DSCSA is fully implemented in 2023, manufacturers will not only be selling quality products downstream, but they will be sending quality data with each transaction. Accurate data are foundational to many pieces of DSCSA. As manufacturers send or prepare to send data it has become clear that there are common best practices that manufacturers engage in to avoid exceptions downstream. This session will cover best practices; how to engage your quality, compliance and distribution center teams; and develop a cross-functional approach to data quality.
