Developed by HDA’s EDI 832 Task Force, this guidance outlines the use of the EDI 832 Product Catalog transaction set to support Drug Supply Chain Security Act (DSCSA) requirements and cold chain storage needs. Intended for pharmacies and their technology providers, the guidance addresses product information such as National Drug Codes (NDCs), Global Trade Item Numbers (GTINs), drug names, dosage forms and package sizes.

2026 Update: FDA NDC-12 Rule
The guidance was updated in 2026 to support the transition from 10-digit to 12-digit NDCs under FDA’s final rule, which takes effect March 7, 2033, with a three-year transition period ending March 7, 2036. The updated version (X12 008050) includes implementation guidance for the new NDC format. Trading partners may adopt the updated guidance before the rule takes effect.
